New North Mississippi All-Stars

September 6th, 2005

Today the latest album from the North Mississippi All-Stars, Electric Blue Watermelon, was released today. It features, amongst others, Lucinda Williams and Robert Randolph although Duwayne Burnside left the band after only one album. I bought it during a lunchtime trip over to Mad City Music and have it playing now. It’s a lot more bluesy than their previous two efforts – a bit more like Shake Hands With Shorty. Still, there is a bit of rap on “No Mo” and a stab at funk with “Stompin’ My Foot” so you’ve got some old, some new.

NMAS will be here in Madison on the 14th of this month at the High Noon Saloon. Opening for them will be Grace Potter and The Nocturnals.
