Porcupine Tree have added a second date to their tour itinerary in Chicago – 12 October – as they are planning on filming both shows for a DVD release sometime next year.

This DVD is planned to be a combination of live performance and a full length documentary on the band that Lasse Hoile has been filming over the last few years. For the occasion the band have taken the opportunity to dust down a few pieces from their back catalogue (including at least one song from the very distant past), as well as several more recent tracks which have not been performed live before. This new repertoire will be performed throughout the forthcoming US/Canada and European tour, not just for the DVD, but Chicago should prove to be a very special night. Robert Fripp will be the band’s special guest on this evening, as well as in DC, Philadelphia, Boston, NYC, Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnatil, and Milwaukee.

PT will be at The Rave in Milwaukee on the 13th of next month.

In the Genesis world, former guitarist Steve Hackett has added a couple more dates to his Acoustic Trio tour:

Wed 5th Oct – Richmond, VA
Fri 21st Oct – Mokena, IL

SH will be at Shank Hall in Milwaukee on the 18th of next month. The band’s other former guitarist, Anthony Phillips, is releasing a new album next month called Field Day. It’s to be 2 CDs so you’ll get a country ton of his bucolic classical guitar stylings.

Onkel Fish has a new 2CD best-of compilation out now called Bouilabaisse. It marks his signing with Snapper Records. There don’t seem to be any plans in the immediate future for a new album and his fall touring is limited to about 3 weeks in Europe. Also, no acting gigs (he was last seen in The Jacket) on the horizon either due to family commitments:

My commitment to my daughter has meant that I have to take my responsibilities as a single parent seriously and as such I have had to cut back on touring for long periods of time in order to provide her with the parenting and support she needs. This has also meant that my general workload outside my home is affected and just recently had to turn down a role in “The Last Legion”, a Dino de Laurentis production starring Colin Frith and Ben Kingsley which was shooting in Slovakia. This would have meant three weeks shooting there and then direct to Bulgaria and the UK tour dates, in total 6 weeks away from Tara. I was disappointed to lose the role but accept there are more important things in Life to deal with and I am sure something else will come along when the time is right. Tara is settling in well in Haddington and at school and these next two years are very important for her.

Lastly, I want to give a preview of upcoming shows. I got a request for some Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd and hope to have that up next week. Since The New Pornographers will be here next month, I’ll be posting a Neko Case show around the time of the gig. I’m also looking to have an American folk week with some music by Doc Watson and a lecture by University of Wisconsin professor James Leary about folk music in our fair state. I will also probably post shows by Blind Boys of Alabama, Dick Dale, and Dick Thompson as they make their ways through the area. Plus, being a big Genesis fan, I’ll have to post a show of theirs. Honestly, I’m surprised I haven’t yet. Plus I’ll try to fulfill any requests I may get.
