September 27th, 2005
Here’s a list of upcoming shows in the Southern Wisconsin/Northern Illinois areas that have caught my eye.
This evening at the High Noon Saloon is a Killdozer listening party! The now defunct band’s sole live album, The Last Waltz, is being reissued and Crustacean Records is throwing a party in celebration. Also at the High Noon, local surf/rockabilly maestros Knuckeldrager will be putting on a free show on 1 October alone with White Hot Tizzies and Skag 48. And the last show of note (for my purposes, anyway, and I’m sure I missed some interesting gigs) takes place on 3 November and features Madison’s heavy sci-fi weirdos, Droids Attack. Also in attendance will be Atomic Bitchwax and Merrick.
Next we have Madpower 2005 this Friday at The Annex. It’s gonna be a loud megadose of progressive metal featuring Mirror Black, The Ottoman Empire, TBA (formerly known as Livewire) & Dark Shift. Although I am not personally familiar with these bands, I do listen to some of the groups which they list as influences such as Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Pantera, and Fates Warning. So expect lots of really, really loud guitar runs in unison, screaming, and odd time signatures.
The Rave in Milwaukee has some good shows coming up including Les Claypool on the 8th of next month and Son Volt on the 14th. Hank Williams III will be there on 9 November but I have no idea if he’ll be doing country or his Misfits schtick.

Living Color @ Shank Hall – 7 December
