A couple interesting tidbits at the extremes of the musical realm.
Firstly, Rounder Records has released the latest installment of its Alan Lomax Collection - Lombardia.
Traveling through the foothills of Italian Alps and the Po Valley, Alan Lomax and Diego Carpitella compiled a diverse collection of folk music from Lombardia. Shepherds, rice workers, and farm folk recorded for them erotic polyphonic ballads; the joyous, hooting riot of panpipe bands; bitingly satirical wedding and carnival songs; and a wonderful sequence of birdcalls produced by tiny, hand-carved instruments. Lombardia presents the full range of this material, calling attention to the rich traditions of a region of Italy whose music was long been overlooked.
On the otherk end, Rogers Waters has announced that he will follow-up his new opera, Ca Ira, with 2 rock albums:
While we are all enjoying Roger's great new opera Ca Ira, fans of his rock albums will be pleased to know that in recent interviews Roger has revealed he has split two bodies of recent work for release in late 2006/2007. The first project deals with politcal angst and his feeling towards recent wars around the world the second project is decribed as a continuation of 'The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking and deals with feelings of love and sex! A tour although likely to be his last is being planned for 2007.
