PROG @ The Overture Center

October 17th, 2005

The honor of being the first rock band to perform at the new Overture Center here in Madison goes to local progressive rock cover band, PROG. They’ll be performing this Saturday, 22 October at 8:30. Tickets are $10 (I think) and can be ordered by calling 608-258-4141. The band do a mix of songs by Genesis, Yes, Jethro Tull, Rush, et al. I saw them a few years ago at the now-closed Speedway Bar. They had the raw chops but the act still needed some polish. Then again, this is a good thing. Sometimes prog rock is too polished so it was nice to hear prog epics that sounded raw & gritty, if one can use those terms to describe progressive rock. It was more about having fun than making sure that every last Mellotron note was in it’s place and keeping that 7/8 beat.
