Show #23: Col. Les Claypool

October 10th, 2005

Les Claypool brought his solo show to The Rave this past Saturday so I’m a little tardy here but better late than never.

This show features Col. Les Claypool & The Fearless Flying Frog Brigade in concert on 2 September 2000 in Turin, New York. I’m not sure if it was the whole tour or not, but this show is mostly covers tunes with a lot of Pink Floyd. Don’t let the paucity of songs fool you – they are all 10+ minutes and features lots of jamming/noodling, depending on your take of such things. For example, “Tomorrow Never Knows” by The Beatles is stretched out quite a bit and exceeds 20 minutes. There’s keyboards here so the tonal palatte might be a bit of a surprise for anyone expecting Primus-like workouts. I personally love this show and find it interesting to hear Les go off on crazy tangents and to hear his trademark farty bass sound alongside guitar parts that sound nothing like Ler’s mix of Frank Zappa and Robert Fripp. Enjoy!

3.Tomorrow Never Knows (The Beatles)
