Show #29: Rhythm'n'Jews - "Between Heaven and Earth" (Part 1)

It would be easy for me to post rock show after rock show here. Indeed, I have enough Genesis shows alone to keep this podcast going for a few years. But there's just too much good music out there that isn't rock. And so...

I've decided to take a little midweek excursion into the realm of klezmer. Klezmer is Yiddish folk music that's made to get people shaking their asses. This is part 1 of a 4-part series about the music called Rhythm'n'Jews and the episode at hand is entitled "Between Heaven and Earth". The series gives some background on the genre and then traces its move from Europe to America and documents the changes the music underwent.

For more info on klezmer, head to the Klezmer Shack. And I urge listeners to check out Madison's own purveyors of klezmer, Yid Vicious. I'll post the remaining episodes next week along with a performance by The New Orleans Klezmer All Stars.
