Show #37: Bidding Farewell

I spent a fair amount of time the past few days trying to decide how I would end 2005 here at Up the Downstair. Should I do a mix like the last week's holiday special? Perhaps a retrospective with some of this year's shows or artists that made an impact in 2005. Then I thought, "Or should I devote the show to one artist?" For some reason, I decided to keep with one artist - but who? I thought that I would throw a show up by the band that got me into collecting live music and that I have hundreds of shows of in my collection. Instead I decided to bid adieu to 2005 by paying tribute to the recently-departed legend, Link Wray, who died last month. I just got this how last week and it seemed appropriate to end the year paying tribute to a man who influenced countless rock musicians.

The music at hand was recorded at his show on 29 April 2005. It took place at Jack Rabbit's in Jacksonville, Florida. Wray played here in Madison 2 or 3 years ago but I was unable to attend the gig. The lesson here is carpe diem.
