Quodia

February 26th, 2006

Former King Crimson bass player, Trey Gunn, has teamed up with Joe Mendelson to form Quodia. Quodia is described as a synthesis of music, video, animation, theater, and storytelling. BBC Moscow describes them as “an advanced step in the tradition that unites Literature and Music, channeling both Brian Eno and Jack Kerouac. A psychedelic, electronic parable.” Their recent shows in Seattle were promoted as follows:

Quodia, featuring Trey Gunn (King Crimson) and Joe Mendelson (Rise Robots Rise), synthesizes the disciplines of music, video, theater, animation and storytelling into one production that transports audience members into a strange and beautiful world.

Using video projection and live instruments – including a 10 string touch guitar, digital audio mixer, keyboards and electronic percussion – Quodia weaves an immersive show experience that is part movie, part theatre, and part concert. Quodia is currently touring The Arrow, an intricate seven chapter tale of myth-like characters who seem to exist outside of time. This simple yet elegant creation inspires a rare degree of audience participation and calls on the viewer to engage their mind and utilize their imagination.

Multimedia excerpts of their performance can be found at the downloads page at their website.
