Now that we here in Madison are finally subject to “average” temperatures for the season, I’m posting a little ditty to help chase away the chill.

This week I feature Natty Nation and this show marks two firsts for the podcast. NN are the first Madison band I’ve featured here and are the first reggae group to be played as well. The band celebrate their 10th anninversary this year by releasing a new album and touring. They’ll even make an all-too rare appearance right here in their hometown on 29 April at the High Noon Saloon.
As their name states, Natty Nation are a reggae band. But they also blend traditional reggae with other types of music such as rock and hip-hop. I readily admit that I’m not the biggest reggae fan on the planet but I’ve seen Natty Nation before (albeit several years ago) and had a great time. While the band and their music most definitely have a social conscience, the main vibe is all about being happy. Only the stingiest curmudgeon could go to one of their shows and not have a good time.
Today’s show is the opening six songs from their concert at the now-closed Luther’s Blues on 29 March 2002. It’s a matrix of a soundboard recording as well as one from the audience.
Sound by:
FOH – Mike Sharpe
House – Rufus Peterson
