Show #54: Neko Case
On Wednesday, The New Pornographers will be in town performing at the Barrymore Theater. However, the Candian indie rock band will be without perhaps their most identifiable member, Neko Case.

Neko Case's musical career started in 1994 when she moved from the U.S. to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada where she joined the punk scene in various bands such as cub and Maow. In 1997 she struck out on her own with her backing band, Her Boyfriends, and released The Virginian, which saw Case move to country music. Shortly after the album's release, she hooked up with The New Pornographers whose debut album, Mass Romantic, came out in 2000.
Case has a truly wonderful voice which is strong & forceful yet hints at vulnerability at the same time. Her music is not strictly country. Rather she infuses it with rock music in a way that pays homage to and builds upon the traditional sounds of Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, et al. Currently living in Chicago, her next album is entitled Fox Confessor Brings the Flood and is due on 7 March.
This week's show was recorded on 16 July 2004 at The Fillmore in San Francisco. It features Paul Rigby on guitar & Calexico.

Hey, thanks for posting this!
Only one little thing - the file doesn't seem to include a few encore songs Neko and Calexico played at this gig. Now that might ordinarily be a minor quibble, but one of the encore songs was a cover of Love's "Alone Again Or." Calexico have recorded other live and studio covers of the song, but this is the only Neko version I'm aware of, and so it would be a real treat to her fans if the song were posted.
Thanks for all the great music.
I try to keep shows in the 45-60 minute range. I'd have to look and see if "Alone Again Or" is on my copy of the recording. If it is, I'd be happy to send you the show.
Hello:
That would be very, very great. My email is philipmole72@sbcglobal.net should you be able to track down the encore songs.
Incidentally, thanks for the Madeleine Peyroux show, too. I was at that show, so it's nice having a souvenir.
Phil
