As I wrote earlier, I got a chance to see Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey last weekend. It featured interviews with a variety of heavy metal musicians but I have soft spot for one of them in particular – Ronnie James Dio. And so I’ve decided to put up a second show this week.

To start your weekend, I’ve thrown together a Dio-era Black Sabbath concert. Well, most of one, anyway. This performance was recorded on 18 November 1980 at the Nakano Sun Plaza Hall, Tokyo, Japan. It’s a show in support of their first album featuring Dio, Heaven and Hell. Although original Sabbath drummer Bill Ward recorded the album, he did not tour with the band. Here’s the full line-up:
Ronnie James Dio – Vocals
Tony Iommi – Guitars
Geezer Butler – Bass Guitars
Vinny Appice – Drums
Geoff Nicholls – Keyboards
Setlist:
Supertzar
War Pigs
Neon Knights
N.I.B.
Children Of The Sea
Sweet Leaf(incl. Drum Solo)
Lady Evil
Ronnie James Dio
Black Sabbath
As a bonus, here’s a video of Dio & the Sabs doing “Heaven and Hell” live.
