Metal Vids

A couple new video clips of interested to metalheads are now up at YouTube.

Firstly, there's the video for Iron Maiden's latest single "The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg". Clocking in at over 7 minutes, it's an odd choice for a single. It was culled from A Matter of Life and Death which will be in stores on 14 August. Having listened to it only once, I like it. It's not great, to my mind, but perhaps this will change with repeated listenings. Although fairly lengthy and bookended by slower, moody bits, the middle of the songs is fairly straight-ahead rock. You know - all riffy with Dickinson's classic operatic vocals. Although the audio at YouTube isn't super hi-fi surrond, I do like the raw sound of the song. This could perhaps be due to the fact that the album was not mastered.

The other video should be of especial interest to fans of Metallica. Apparently they'd been in the studio rencently recording their next album and then either finished or took a break from recording for a jaunt through Europe. Last month one of their concerts was taped or broadcast on television and they played a new song for the Dutch audience. This was recorded on 8 June. It's untitled and is a good song. It harkens back to the Metallica of the early to mid80s in certain ways yet also seems to retain the 90s sound in the chorus.
