Live Prog on Sale

October 13th, 2006

If you’re a fan of live prog rock, then direct your attention to the Discipline Global Mail Order shop. There are a couple box sets of live music that are discounted 10% currently.

Firstly we have Yes’ The Word is Live. The set features live tracks recorded during 1970-1988.

The other set of note here is The Great Deceiver which was recently brought back into print. This is a 4CD set of the four-man line-up of KC during the years of 1973-74. This is Crimso during their heavy years – a cross of Bartok & Hendrix. While there is some repetition of songs, the versions are slightly different. You also get to hear “Doctor Diamond”, a song that has never been released in studio form. But the real treasure here is all of the improvisation. Not only do the various versions of familiar songs all have their own twists and turns but there’s several pieces which were made up on the spot such as “Sharks’ Lungs in Lemsip” and “Clueless & Slightly Slack”.

I need to pick this up.
