The Story of Paramount Records
Blues aficionados will be interested in a program this Friday at the Wisconsin Historical Museum. It's called "The Story of Paramount Records.
Angela Mack, Chairperson for the Paramount Plaza “Walk of Fame” in Grafton, Wisconsin, will discuss Wisconsin’s connection to early blues recordings. She will also talk about the exciting blues renaissance currently taking place in Grafton. Her remarks will be followed by a live performance by noted blues musician “Catfish,” who will play a variety of tunes in the style of Blind Lemon Jefferson, Skip James, & Charley Patton.
The story of blues legend Skip James making his way from the Delta to Wisconsin to record at Paramount in 1931 was chronicled in "The Soul of a Man", direted by Wim Wenders. This was an episode in the multi-part series The Blues, produced by Martin Scorsese from 2003.
