Genesis Reunion

I've known about this for a while but have neglected to mention it...

The 3-man line-up of Genesis has reformed: Tony Banks, Phil Collins, and Mike Rutherford. A press conference to officially announce the reunion was given this morning. I suspect it will be archived and available again here. The band will be in Europe next summer for the first leg of the Turn It On Again Tour. Here are the dates:

11 June - Helsinki, Finland Olympic Stadium
14 June - Herning, Denmark Messecenter
15 June - Hamburg, Germany AOL Arena
17 June - Berne, Switzerland Stade de Suisse
18 June - Linz, Austria Gugglestadium
20 June - Budapest, Hungary Puskas Ferenc Stadion
21 June - Katowice, Poland Slaski Stadium
23 June - Hannover, Germany AWD Arena
26 June - Dusseldorf, Germany LTU Arena
29 June - Stuttgart, Germany Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadium
30 June - Paris, France Parc Des Princes
1 July - Amsterdam, Holland Arena
3 July - Berlin, Germany Olympiastadion
4 July - Leipzig, Germany Zentralstadion
5 July - Frankfurt, Germany Commerzbank Arena
7 July - London, UK Twickenham Stadium
8 July - Manchester, UK Old Trafford
10 July - Munich, Germany Olympiastadion
12 July - Monaco, Louis II Stadium
14 July - Rome, Italy Telecomcerto at Colosseo

Unfortunately they won't be touring behind a new album so this will probably be a greatest hits thing. Apparently they've decided to drop the medleys of older tunes. Now whether they will replace them with full versions of older songs remains to be seen.

In addition, SACD versions of their albums remastered and remixed into 5.1 Surround Sound will be released starting next spring:

March 2007: A Trick Of The Tail (1976), Wind & Wuthering (1977), …And Then There Were Three…(1978), Duke (1980) Abacab (1981)

June/July 2007: Genesis (1983), Invisible Touch (1986), We Can't Dance (1991), Calling All Stations (1997)

Fall/Winter 2007/Spring 2008: Trespass (1970), Nursery Cryme (1971), Foxtrot (1972), Selling England By The Pound (1973), The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (1974)

Please. Please. Please. Say its a joke! These guys were great in their time i.e. 1971-1983 but thats history to TRUE Genesis fans out here. Id rather go hear a Genesis cover band at least they play the stuff that had intelligence, challenged listeners and most of all it was real prog! Collins, Banks and Rutherford should stop liking their mediocracy.Im sure Im not the only fan out here with an honest say so.

Apparently he's Disneyed out.

No joke. Follow the link and watch the press conference yourself. I won't get into a pissing match with you over what does or does not constitute a "true Genesis fan" but I really wish there was some new material to be had. I doubt that I will go to one of these shows.
