There are a couple nerdcore documentaries on tap.
The first is Nerdcore For Life.
Nerdcore is a subculture of hip-hop created for nerds, by nerds and the music is almost entirely disseminated via the internet. The subject matter covered in nerdcore is diverse but generally most songs focus on interests that in the past, mainstream America would consider geeky such as video games, sci-fi cons, computer programming, cult films, robots, the internet, anime and science and technology. While mainstream musicians may occasionally refer to such topics in some of their work for comedic effect, Geeksta rappers expound on these subjects for the same reason that Gangsta rappers talk about poverty, violence, wealth and power….it is the lifestyle that they know and are proud of.
Here’s the trailer:
Notice the unholy alliance of hip-hop and boardgames.
Next up is Nerdcore Rising. From the webpage:
Nerdcore Rising is a documentary that will uncover the new wave of hip-hop called Nerdcore by following the godfather of the genre, MC Frontalot and his geeksta entourage on their first national tour. They will perform everywhere from gaming conventions to D&D tournaments. And, of course, we’ll get to meet nerdcore fans in all of their Magic-playing, pocket protector-wearing, Mensa-bragging, Jolt Cola drinking, internet-gaming glory.

I’m guessing this is where it all began.
Can you be a nerd and have tattoos on your knuckles? Now that I think about it I used to work with a guy with a Tull tattoo…..
I think these guys are following the old saying ” write what you know’ and that’s admirable. But the whole self deprecating thing is a bit much. Who is the richest guy in the world? A big old nerd!
The guy who was shouting in front of his dorm about how the 60’s had civil rights ,the 90’s had gay rights and now it’s time for the nerd revolution, left a bad taste in my mouth. Yeah ,I’m sorry you got picked on but nobody has ever killed a nerd for being a nerd. An atomic wedgie is not the same as getting lynched.
