Albums Down, Downloads Up

January 4th, 2007

The AP is reporting that albums sales are down but downloads are up.

Year-end sales figures released Thursday by Nielsen SoundScan said 588.2 million albums were sold in 2006 — a 4.9 percent decline from 2005.

But digital track sales increased by 65 percent over the previous year, with 582 million tracks sold, and digital album sales more than doubled, with nearly 33 million sold last year.

I split the difference earlier today by purchasing a CD online. Now, normally I’d go to Mad City Music but they wouldn’t have it. But it is from a Wisconsin band and I did buy it from the band themselves so my conscience is at ease.

Yeah but they’ll ORDER it for you. If you stop buying cd’s from local stores they’re gonna disappear.

That being said I have to got the library and pick up some cd’s I have on hold.

There are just some things they can’t and I suspect this is one of them. Besides, Dave still has yet to make good on his promise of more Goose Island Ramblers. It’s been almost 6 months. So I’ve either gotta order from the webpage or drive to Sauk City.

Sauk is a nice city. I lived there for my toddler years. You could have a nice saturday drive. Look for eagles on by the river. Have some ice cream at Swiss Style and make a pilgrimage to Cucca Records.

Sauk is indeed a nice town. I’ve hung out and started many a canoe trip there. I went to another local CD shop here yesterday and couldn’t find an album by another local band. So I’ll try Mad City again. Otherwise it’s back to the web.
