New Genesis Lamb Show Sees Light of Day
On Christmas Day, a previously "hidden" Genesis show was given wide release:
GENESIS : GRONINGEN '75
April 10, 1975 ; Martinihal - Groningen, The Netherlands
Excerpts from Paul Russell's book "Genesis : play me my song. A live guide 1969 to 1975". ISBN 0946719586. A must-have for serious collectors:
A stunning soundboard/ambience* recording that misses the opening story..."The Waiting Room" is again the star of the show, it's nine-and-a-half minutes are packed full of surprises...The soundboard tapes are always kind to Hackett....here every sustained harmony is heard...Unfortunately "The Musical Box" only gets as far as the story stage. On this form that is a real shame...
Additional note:
When Peter starts to sing "Early morning, Manhattan..", his voice is gone after the first syllable. This is not a technical problem, but Peter looses his balance, slips and goes flat on his face. He recovers quickly, to continue as if nothing happened.
* In fact not a soundboard feed, but recorded with "open air microphones" (OAM) from nearby the desk, by the Genesis crew. This version comes from a very low generation tape and is completely unremastered. Credits go to those who can not, or don't want to, be mentioned!
This much discussed and sought-after recording was torrented around Christmas 2006 by Meeksgenesis, a small group of fans and collectors, who don't care much about egos, but do it for music and friendship.
