Majestic Theatre to be Resurrected
The Capital Times reported yesterday that the beleaguered Majestic Theatre is in the process of being sold. Upon rising from the ashes, it is to be a live music venue which will also double as a cinema.
Two out-of-state partners with music industry experience are buying the historic -- and often controversial -- Majestic Theatre and intend to turn it into a live concert venue for regional and national touring acts.
The partners have an architect and are interviewing contractors, but Verveer said: "I promise none of the renovations that they have proposed will in any way detract from the historic character of the Majestic Theatre. It is a Madison designated landmark. They are well aware of that and in fact are very anxious to restore the Majestic Theatre to its original grandeur."
The partners are also committed to continuing to make the Majestic a venue for the Wisconsin Film Festival. In fact, they intend to expand the film offerings beyond just once a year.
While I don't hate the Korova Milk Bar meets Animoid Row look it has now, it will be nice to have the interior back to something akin to what it was like upon its opening in 1906.
