Son Volt’s latest album, The Search, was released Tuesday. I picked it up on Wednesday and have listened to bits & pieces of it in spurts and it is quite good. It sounds very much like a continuation of Jay Farrar’s solo material and the band’s last effort, Okemah and the Melody of Riot. I want to listen to it some more before I write a review. The CD has 14 songs while an additional 8 tracks from the sessions are available, at the moment, on up at iTunes. These songs are: “Coltrane Free”, “Waking World”, “Carnival Blues”, “Bleed the Line”, “Exurbia”, “Houdini Punches”, “Bicycle Hotel”, and “Acetone Angels”.
You can listen to a performance from last month that previewed the new material up at NPR.
