The Last Town Chorus

April 20th, 2007

The Last Town Chorus will be here tomorrow opening for Robert Randolph & the Family Band at the Orpheum Theatre.

The Last Chorus is led by this woman, Megan Hickey:

tltc2006 The Last Town Chorus

I was approached by her record company, Hacktone, about doing some press for her since she and the band will be here tomorrow and shall be returning next month. Having never heard of them, I did some research. At first the idea of a young woman not clad in rhinestones playing lap steel guitar has a certain novelty to it in this day and age. However, listening to some of Hickey’s music, I was quite impressed. There’s a bit of twang but it’s not really country. Check out the samples at band’s webpage or its MySpace page.

I’ll be interviewing her tomorrow so keep an eye out for that and of a review of the album Wire Waltz.

I think this is a band I’d enjoy more live – the production on the song snippets I listened to left something to be desired (I wanted a more distinct/cleaner sound). Where are they playing next month?

The show is at Cafe Monmartre or however it’s spelled.
