New Fish Tracks & Other Proggy News
Four tracks from Fish's upcoming album, Thirteenth Star, are being previewed at his MySpace page. They are: "Miles de Besos", "Square Go", "Circle Line", and "Manchmal".
In Jethro Tull news, Ian Anderson reports that there's a new album on the horizon in an interview with Acoustic magazine:
Then there’s a new album which I’m about to start work on which will be recorded on and off over the next few months because we have some tours coming up, but it will be scheduled for release in September...However, it will certainly have a Jethro Tull component part, it won’t just be a solo album. At this particular point in time, it is my intention that there will be three or four tracks that will feature a chamber orchestra and there will be some acoustic music and some electric music, so it will be fairly eclectic and unfocused rather than rekindle prog-rock moments from 1972.
Steve Wilson/Porcupine Tree fans should read this interview with SW. Looks like we'll be getting an EP with Fear of a Blank Planet leftovers this fall and a possible project with Opeth's Mikael Åkerfeldt, and Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy. SW describes says it "will be heavier than Porcupine Tree but softer then Opeth".
This week's featured artist Riverside has a new EP out called 02 Panic Room in anticipation of their 3rd album, Rapid Eye Movement, which is due in September.
Lastly, I'll mention that I got a hold of the video of Genesis' concert in Düsseldorf last month. It was broadcast in high-def via satellite in Europe. The band sounded good. Chester was his usual brilliant self and Tony actually pulled out some (slightly) different sounds from his Korg. Daryl's geetar sounded a bit rawer than in days past as well and Mike has busted out his double-neck. Phil's drumming was great even if his drum gymnastics of the early 80s are long gone. And I have to say that I think his voice is still strong. It's deeper now that's he in his 50s but still great. I didn't watch the entire concert but, from the performances I watched, he's cut down on his extemporaneous vocalisms. For a taste, here's "In the Cage" from that show.
The band opened Live Earth and I was really surprised that they didn't get slammed in the press. With Disturbed having covered "Land of Confusion", perhaps Genesis will be hip and cool. Nah.
