Biffscapes, &c

A little bit of the legacy of Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew lives on right here in Madison in the form of Biff U. Blumfumgagnge. Biff will be performing solo on 6 October:

Biff Blumfumgagnge (Gomers, Reptile Palace Orchestra, Jambeau, Headpump, etc.) presents "An Evening of BIFFSCAPES:" music made with a mandolin, violin, a few synths and some midi trickery... Think Keller Williams on Uranus, or maybe a Fripp/Eno soundscape crossed with a one-man-bourbon street band. A question - answer - demonstration of how it all works at the end of the concert is also promised.

There's a special guest online as well.

It's Blumfumgagnge's first solo show in about 10 years.

8-10:40pm, 1102 Williamson St

$5

And don't forget that Robert Fripp & The League of Crafty Guitarists will be at the Majestic on 10 November.

Also at the Majestic will be Project/Object doing the music of Frank Zappa. The drummer for that occasion will be Eric Slick who recently finished a stint, along with his sister Julie, in the Adrian Belew Power Trio. I am listening to a newly-acquired copy of their show from this past summer on 21 August in North Carolina and I have to say it is fucking fantastic! I witnessed a different incarnation of the band a couple years ago and this is my first exposure to the Slick-laced version. They rock! Really, for barely being able to drink legally, the Slicks are amazing. Eric attacks the drums while Julie is all over the bass. Seriously, when they bust out in the middle of "Dinosaur" after the pause, I totally forgot that there's supposed to be two bassists and two drummers. It is an audience recording but the sound is great due, no doubt, to Biff's work as sound engineer. Here you can see Biff and the band in Mexico during a soundcheck:
