And There She Saw Lego Matty Groves, Walking in the Crowd

October 18th, 2007

Back in high school, my friend Dogger and I made many a Lego movie with our school’s Betamax video cameras including “Hippie Camp Massacre” and the mutli-part “Adventures of Ollie North”. Well, British folk rockers Fairport Convention have finally jumped on the bandwagon. To celebrate their 40th anniversary, the band performed their seminal album Liege & Lief in its entirety this summer at the annual Cropredy Festival. Former members, including Richard Thompson, returned for this special occasion. The classic “Matty Groves” had some interesting video playing in the background.

You’ve not quite got it right. Yes, the 1969 lineup did perform the Liege & Lief album (including Matty Groves) at Cropredy this year. But the video with the Lego figures was shown during the *current* Fairport lineup’s set the following night. That’s why Richard Thompson is nowhere to be seen. (I know, I was there.)

My bad, as they say. Thanks for pointing out my error. I am quite jealous that you were there and I wasn’t. Hopefully I’ll make Cropredy one day before the Fairports are octogenarians.
