Show #152: Drive By Truckers

February 4th, 2008

This week’s show goes out to Arch Stanton. He’s a big fan of Drive By Truckers and I’ve finally gone out and acquired one of their shows.

With the band hailing from Athens, Georgia with some members from Northern Alabama and having a triple guitar attack, it’s difficult not to make comparisons to Lynyrd Skynyrd. But that certainly isn’t the whole story. Taking into consideration that this recording is my first taste of the band, I’d say that you’d have to throw in the Southern gothic of 16 Horsepower as well. Add to this a prediliction for concept albums and you’ve got Drive By Truckers. More or less. Kinda sorta. Lisen for yourself.

Umm… They made a double album recounting the Story of Skynrd called ‘Southern Rock Opera’ so, yeah there’s some Skynryd in their music.
