Repitles on the Rooftop

Wednesday evening The Dulcinea, M., and I caught Tunes at Monona Terrace featuring the venerable Reptile Palace Orchestra. Biff was clad in sombrero with the band in fine form, and Anna’s alfresco slithering was a sure sign of spring. The D had packed us dinner for the occasion. The band displayed their usual deftness at getting people up and dancing to their Balkan lounge funk beats, among them the ubiquitous Utilikilt guy.

RPO is perhaps the only band in the world to get people dancing to Brian Eno as they did with their take on “Sombre Reptiles” which took the two and a half minute song and stretched it out, taking it places Eno never intended.

Also on hand was Ayperi, she of local bellydancing fame and her partner, who I presume was Misha. They did a little slithering of their own which helped give the show a sensual element which belied its family-friendly tag.

Unfortunately, I had an appointment to attend to that evening and couldn’t stay for the whole show. However, now that the weather is warmer, though, I’m sure RPO will be playing outdoors again soon.
