Show #161: The Stills-Young Band

A listener of has made a request for some Stills-Young Band and I aim to please.

In early 1976 Stephen Stills and Neil Young decided once again to collaborate. The former Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young bandmates spent about four months recording Long May You Run which was released in September of that year. However, the band began touring in June with the first show on the 23rd. Eighteen gigs later, Young left. Reportedly bored with the whole project, the last show of the tour was on 20 July making the album a posthumous affair.

This week's show was recorded at the Civic Center, Providence, Rhode Island on 7 July 1976. It's a very good audience recording that was originally released as a bootleg called Blind River In 1962. This recording was remastered by NoSpEx which means that hiss and other imperfections were removed, levels adjusted, and the like.

Band Line-Up:

Neil Young - vocals, guitar, piano, harmonica
Stephen Stills - vocals, guitar, piano
Jerry Aiello - organ
George Perry - bass
Joe Lala - percussion
Joe Vitale - drums

Setlist:

Love The One You're With
The Loner
Helpless
For What It's Worth
Long May You Run
Black Queen
Southern Man
Sugar Mountain
Midnight On The Bay

Stephen Stills
Neil Young

I was unable to find any Still-Young footage so here's Neil doing "Long May You Run" by himself. I believe this is his MTV Unplugged performance.

Jim - you're welcome. Let me know if you want a copy of the show on CD.

NoSpEx - it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, however fleetingly. Thanks for all the work you do. I did get the show from a DC++ hub. As you can see above, I offer free copies of the show on CD or the lossless files to anyone who leaves a comment or asks.

I generally only cast 45-60 mins for ease of portable device listening and to conserve server space. They're little tidbits to entice people into the real deal. (I hope.)

Thanks again.

NoSpEx - not sure why, but your comment isn't appearing on the post. Anyway, I do have the Tori Amos show. I try to grab any shows from here in Madison as well as those that I attended.

As a side note, is there any chance you'd be interested in doing an interview about your remastering actvities? Personally, I'd love to know more.

You give away CD copies of whole shows? Man oh man, I'd sure appreciate the full Stills-Young show! I was at this show. Poco opened which was a real treat because I'm a Poco fan, too. I still live near Providence but shows at the Civic Center (now called the Dunkin' Donust Center - UGH!!!!) aren't the same.
