The Forward Music Festival kicks off tomorrow afternoon. 77 Square has a nice article today which focuses on the organizers and all the hard work they’ve put into getting the festival on its feet.

For those keen on leaving the bounds of American music, the Madison World Music Festival continues through Sunday. The fest moves to Williamson Street on Saturday for the Willy Street Fair.
Blues fans should head to the Harmony on Saturday night for Bobby Bryan and Uptown All-Stars.

Also note that Madison Symphony Orchestra begins its season in just over a week on the 26th with a program of Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4, Respighi’s The Pines of Rome, and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3.
Lastly, progressive rock fans should note that Peter Hammill (he of Van der Graaf Generator) will be returning to the States this autumn. His closest stop will be at Shank Hall on 5 October.
