Chicago’s Polkaholics have released what is probably the first polka-rock opera – Wally!. It chronicles the life of Chicago polka great Li’l Wally who reinvented the polka here in the States.
You can hear “Division Street” from the new album at the band’s MySpace page as well as older material. (The intersection of Division Street with Ashland and Milwaukee Avenues is in an area in Chicago called the Polish Downtown due to it having been settled by Poles early in the city’s history.) The CD release party will be on 1 August at Quenchers Saloon.
