Today begins the Midwest Gypsy Swing Festival which runs through Saturday. Tomorrow night will features Madison’s own Harmonious Wail.

The band was formed in 1987 by Sims Delaney-Potthoff and it has been kicking around the Madison area ever since. I’ve seen them on a number of occasions at block parties and festivals and enjoy their music greatly. However, as with The Fugees’ show from earlier this week, I am not well-versed when it comes to Gyspy jazz. I’ve heard Django Reinhardt and know that he is a seminal figure in the genre, but there my knowledge ends.
So enjoy the show and consider heading out to the country for the festival.
No setlist but know that it’s a great soundboard recording from the High Noon Saloon recorded on 9 December 2007.
The band has an official presence on YouTube and have posted this video of them performing at the Stoughton Opera House.
