Coastie Song

October 14th, 2009

This is classic. I worked at The Towers for almost seven years so this hits home for me. For anyone not from Madison or from here but unfamiliar, “coasties” are the rich kids who come here to college from the East Coast, primarily New York City. The Towers is a private dorm which houses a lot of coasties.

I recall the one coastie gal who called her mother a bitch to her mother’s face with her father standing right there because she, the mother, refused to get her daughter a bagel. (The bagels being about 7 feet away on a table.) Since I cooked there, I remember well all the orders for egg white omelets cooked with no oil. I always made sure to use extra oil. Eating disorders, boob jobs for high school graduation gifts…and they didn’t think twice about leaving behind expensive televisions, stereo equipment, bicycles, etc. because mommy & daddy would just buy them new ones when they got back home. Ah, yes. Coasties.
