This week’s show goes out to my buddy Pete who introduced me to Dread Zeppelin back in 1990 when we were in college. I recall sitting out on the lawn next to the dorm (Witte Hall) playing cribbage with my roommate’s speakers blasting their first album, Un-Led-Ed, out the window. Someone yelled, “What is this Zeppelin-Elvis shit?!” Good times, good times. I saw them at Club DeWash here in Madison back in 1994 or so as well as at Summerfest in Milwaukee a few years later.
What is there to say about Dread Zeppelin? They do Led Zeppelin in a reggae style with an Elvis impersonator as lead singer. OK, they do non-Zep songs too but they got their start covering them and they remain the core of their shows.
Here we have their set from 5 September 1999 in Rockford, IL. The band were opening for Joan Jett & The Blackhearts at the On the Waterfront Festival.
