nonightcrawlers Show #212: New Orleans Nightcrawlers

I’ve been watching Treme and I thought some New Orleans jazz would be appropriate.

Treme opens with a second-line brass band and that is what the New Orleans Nightcrawlers are. Second lines are musicians and dancers which follow the main line, that is, the main section of a parade by people who have a permit to have one. For more info on the history of such parades, check out this site.

This is a great recording which was broadcast on the radio by WWOZ. The band were at the Old Point Bar in New Orleans, Louisiana on 25 May 2000.
