Lester Chambers is the 99%

March 5th, 2012

Lester Chambers 1 percent Lester Chambers is the 99%

This is apparently Lester Chambers of The Chambers Brothers proclaiming his membership in the 99%. 27 years without a royalty check! What kind of contract did they sign? The hit song they licensed is presumably “Time Has Come Today”.

With stories like this one and revelations that the big labels commit copyright infringement themselves, it is shameful that these companies get to dominate the conversation over IP laws.

Sweet Relief has set up a fund where people can donate money to Chambers to help him out with medical bills and such. It is here.

Thank you so much for bringing this issue to the forefront. I’d like to suggest that one very important way to support Lester and other classic American musical treasures is to buy what they are selling now! Lester has assembled a great band, corralled by Baron Chase, and has kicked off an exciting on-line concert series (next one scheduled for March 24th @ 6pm http://www.stageit.com). He is still writing great songs, recording CDs and performing. So, go see him, buy his music, purchase tickets to his shows. This is how you can offer ongoing help. Love music? Support a musician. Love Lester? Buy his stuff! Thanks again…. <3
